Professore ordinario di Biochimica Agraria presso la Facoltà di Agraria della Università degli Studi della Tuscia dal 196 al 1990.Professore ordinario di Biochimica Agraria presso la Facoltà di Agraria della Università degli Studi di Firenze dal 1990. Direttore del Dipartimento di Scienza del Suolo e Nutrizione della Pianta, Università degli Studi di Firenze dal 2001 al 2007. Direttore del Dipartimento di Scienze delle Produzioni Vegetali, del Suolo e dell’Ambiente Agroforestale, Università degli Studi di Firenze dal 2010 al 2012 Direttore del Dipartimento di Scienze delle Produzioni Agroalimentari e dell’Ambiente, Università degli Studi di Firenze dal 2013 al 2016. Membro del Senato Accademico dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze dal novembre 2012 al 2016.
Autore di circa 250 pubblicazioni internazionali con “Impact Factor” ed editore di 5 libri. Scopus ha recensito 143 pubblicazioni con un numero di citazioni di circa 6030 e con un h-index di 38. Inserito dalla Thomson Reuters tra "The World's most influential scientific minds 2015", che individua i ricercatori scientifici più citati nel mondo, a partire da una base stimata in circa 9 milioni di studiosi. Tra i circa tremila nominativi individuati solamente erano 44 ricercatori italiani

Nannipieri Paolo was born at Livorno (Italy) in 1946 and graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of Pisa in 1969. He was a scolarship holder then a reseacher at the C.N.R. (National Research Council). In 1986 he covered the chair of Agrocultural Chemistry at the University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy. He has spent several study periods abroad (mainly in U.S.A.) and he has co-ordinated scientific work and chaired national and international research projects. He has horganised national and international congresses. He is editor in chief of the international journal Biology and Fertility of Soils; he is member of the Editorial Board of the international journals Archives of Agronomy and Soil Science e Arid Land Research and Management. He has edited 4 international books and he is author and coauthor of more than 200 scientific papers, mostly in international journals. He is a member of various scientific societies. He is President of Commission 2.3 of the IUSS from 2006 to 2010; he is international representative of the Italian Society of Soil Science. He has been the Chairman of the Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition from 2001 to 2007.
