The international PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the Department of Sciences of Agro-Alimentary Productions and the Environment (DISPAA) combines expertise of many disciplines in the agro-environmental field with the aim to train researchers able to carry out a qualified scientific activity in the field of plant and animal production, considering also aspects of eco-sustainability, climate change and recovery to agricultural practices of polluted and degraded areas.
The training quality of the doctorate is reflected in the high level of innovation of the scientific research of the professors and researchers of the Department highlighted by the several Italian and European projects that involve them (see: www.unifi.it/vp-10879-progetti-dell-unione-europea.html?newlang=ita). The doctorate scientific training quality is also guaranteed by its high level of internationality highlighted by the presence of numerous foreign members in the College of Teachers, and by the activation of scientific and co-tutele agreements with several foreing and european universities, respectively.
Related to didactics, the doctorate facilities include classrooms for lectures, seminars, tutorials and , informatic activities. The doctorate students have free access to internet and to the University librarian services , and also have a personal e-mail inbox.
The departmental research facilities include numerous laboratories with basic and innovative equipment available for PhD students to develop qualified research in the various thematics of the doctorate . The computer labs are equipped with specific software for data analysis, simulations, modeling, image analysis, GIS from national and international database.
Thanks to the existing scientific colaboration agreements between the department and several national and international research institutions also their laboratories are available for the research activities of the doctorate students.
For the in field research activity is available the University of Florence experimental farm of Montepaldi (San Casciano in Val di Pesa) which covers an area of more than 320 ha. The Monterpaldi experimental farm partecipate to the Long Term Experiment (LTE) of the International Society of Organic Farming Research (ISOFAR) under the supervision of the Prof. GaioCesare Pacini.
In consequence of the several national and international research projects the Department have consolidate collaborations with several International research institutes that are available to host the doctorate students for their research and experimental activities.
The doctorate administrative structure have an office specially dedicated to the foreign doctorate students able to solve specific problems related to the inscription, the choice of accommodation, canteens, means of transport, etc.
